MY EXPERIENCE AND SPECIALISMS

I am a leading Senior Barrister with more than 30 years experience at the Bar.
Previously employed as a Civil Servant, working in policy sections for just over 13 years, I decided to pursue my legal career and was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1990, by the Middle Temple.
I did my pupillage in one of the largest sets in London and then decided to move out into the provinces in 1992. However, wishing to specialise rather more, I then moved back to Chambers in London in 1998 and remained practising in London until 2016. By then, having tired of the incessant ‘Chambers Politics’, which seems to be a feature which bedevils Chambers in London (the day I walked into Chambers to begin my pupillage, the Head of Chambers and his wife walked out, but I think that was purely coincidental), I decided to move back to Kent and become a Sole Practitioner. Nowadays, with any contentious decisions or Chambers’ coups which arise, I merely discuss it with myself and manage to reach a decision without my having to resign or flounce off in a huff.
Whilst I am known as a robust and assertive advocate, I pride myself on being friendly and approachable, but also honest and forthright. I will always seek to provide the client with an honest appraisal of his or her case. If the case has slim or nil prospects of success then I will say so. After all, it is the client’s money which is involved and they have a right not to waste their money on fruitless endeavours.
Whilst I am physically situated on the Kent coast I have always travelled extensively throughout England and Wales to whichever court is necessary and I continue to do so. However, since the Covid-19 pandemic, many hearings are now conducted remotely and that will no doubt be the signpost for the future. Location therefore provides no problems.
